2017: Chinese Patent Office (SIPO) changed legal status code

Post by EPO / Patent Data Services » Mon May 22, 2017 1:42 pm

Since the 1st of April, the Chinese Patent Office (SIPO) has changed their legal status codes.

We have decided to take this opportunity to switch to the legal status codes as delivered by SIPO, as they now deliver 4-digits codes. With the new codes we are now in a position to process all codes for patents and utility models the way we get them from the Chinese Patent Office. This WYSIWWG (what you see is what We got) is our new approach to legal status data processing. You will hear more from this approach in the coming year because also the German and Brazilian legal status information will undergo changes.

For China: Until event date 15/03/2017, we received the data in the old format and it has been processed in due time.

From event date 22/03/2017 onwards, we receive the new format. You will see the new legal status codes appearing in the online legal status codes table in the second half of April. We strongly hope to have the new process up-and-running by the end of April.

REMARK: Please be aware that the data with event date 11/01/2017 could not be processed so far because it had already been delivered in the new format. We will process this week’s legal status information as soon as we have implemented the new process for Chinese legal status information.
