404 coming and going

Post by heltime » Sat Oct 15, 2022 8:30 am

Hi forum! I yesterday I got a 404 result for a biblio search. When testing a bit later, I got a 200 with data for the same query. Later again I got 404. It seemed to coming and going a bit. The Throttling response from the service at the time was

Code: Select all

2022-10-14T08:50:22.770538277Z #9585f0fe T:52 | [INF] busy (images=green:100, inpadoc=green:45, other=green:1000, retrieval=green:100, search=green:15
2022-10-14T08:50:22.770575380Z #9585f0fe T:52 | [INF] Remaining quota: 450/450 Mb/hr, 4087/4096 Mb/week, payingQuotaUsed: 0
It seems a bit odd that the service should return 404 if there is data but the service was busy, is this really the case?

I was unfortunately not reading the rejection reason header, will do so on subsequent tests :-)

Hi Vesna, sorry for long delay on this.

Unfortunately the delay is so long that I can't really recall exactly which publication I was requesting. Only that it was the biblio search. Guess that's not much to go on, but maybe you can check if it is possible that the server returns 404 if it is busy (but all endpoints green)?

Helge

Endpoints are only important when system is in idle. If its busy or in overload the supersedes what is in brackets. Its all explained in OPS manual.

Vesna

Hi again Vesna, a little update on this with some more details. This time when asking for claims (biblio returns fine in this case):

Request: http://ops.epo.org/rest-services/publis ... 3A1/claims

Response from OPS is:

Code: Select all

StatusCode: 404, ReasonPhrase: 'Not Found', Version: 1.1, Content: System.Net.Http.HttpConnectionResponseContent, Headers:
{
  Date: Fri, 20 Jan 2023 11:52:41 GMT
  Connection: keep-alive
  Server: Apache
  X-Throttling-Control: idle (images=green:200, inpadoc=green:60, other=green:1000, retrieval=green:200, search=green:30)
  Strict-Transport-Security: max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains
  X-API: ops-v3.2
  X-IndividualQuotaPerHour-Used: 100748
  X-RegisteredQuotaPerWeek-Used: 1487578
  X-EPO-Client-IP: 88.90.184.33
  X-EPO-Forwarded: [88.90.184.33]
  Access-Control-Allow-Methods: POST
  Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *
  Access-Control-Allow-Headers: Authorization
  Content-Type: application/xml;charset=UTF-8
  Content-Length: 179
  Content-Language: en
}, Trailing Headers:
{
}
I suppose there simply are no claims available for this application? Should there be?

Yes, 404, as described in OPS manually means an error in query or document not being avaialble. Which document were your querying?

I was querying claims for EP3463663A1 using the URI

Code: Select all

http://ops.epo.org/rest-services/published-data/publication/docdb/EP3463663A1/claims

Capture_EURO_PCT.PNG
Its EURO-PCT (Article 153/3) and that means there are no claims for EP A1 document, as you see if you check Espacenet. WO document and its claims are replacing publication of that biblio record so if you want to offer claims with that EP record, you have to proceed as we do in Espacenet and offer WO claims with that EP A1 biblio record.

Also, with docdb formant, always separate with dots ".". It might work fine for many cases but it will also cause rejection in range 400 for other cases:
EP.xxxxxxx.Ax

Hi again Vesna, sorry for my somewhat sporadic re-opening of this thread.

For the case you describe in your previous post (claims associated with WO publications) OPS should still return biblio and full-cycle responses though? I did a test this morning on a similar case:

Code: Select all

http://ops.epo.org/rest-services/published-data/publication/docdb/EP.17731819.A/full-cycle

StatusCode: 404, ReasonPhrase: 'Not Found', Version: 1.1, Content: System.Net.Http.HttpConnectionResponseContent, Headers:
{
  Date: Mon, 27 Feb 2023 10:17:14 GMT
  Connection: keep-alive
  Server: Apache
  X-Throttling-Control: busy (images=green:100, inpadoc=green:45, other=green:1000, retrieval=green:100, search=green:15)
  Strict-Transport-Security: max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains
  X-API: ops-v3.2
  X-IndividualQuotaPerHour-Used: 1790
  X-RegisteredQuotaPerWeek-Used: 716
  X-EPO-Client-IP: 88.90.184.33
  X-EPO-Forwarded: [88.90.184.33]
  Access-Control-Allow-Methods: POST
  Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *
  Access-Control-Allow-Headers: Authorization
  Content-Type: application/xml;charset=UTF-8
  Content-Length: 179
  Content-Language: en
}

Code: Select all

http://ops.epo.org/rest-services/published-data/publication/docdb/EP.17731819.A/biblio

StatusCode: 404, ReasonPhrase: 'Not Found', Version: 1.1, Content: System.Net.Http.HttpConnectionResponseContent, Headers:
{
  Date: Mon, 27 Feb 2023 10:17:35 GMT
  Connection: keep-alive
  Server: Apache
  X-Throttling-Control: busy (images=green:100, inpadoc=green:45, other=green:1000, retrieval=green:100, search=green:15)
  Strict-Transport-Security: max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains
  X-API: ops-v3.2
  X-IndividualQuotaPerHour-Used: 1969
  X-RegisteredQuotaPerWeek-Used: 895
  X-EPO-Client-IP: 88.90.184.33
  X-EPO-Forwarded: [88.90.184.33]
  Access-Control-Allow-Methods: POST
  Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *
  Access-Control-Allow-Headers: Authorization
  Content-Type: application/xml;charset=UTF-8
  Content-Length: 179
  Content-Language: en
}
I see the the throttling control says its busy, but that should not be the reason for 404 if I have understood things right?

UPDATE: This was probably caused by using endpoint "published-data/publication" for an application.

Hi

404 indicates incorrect number, no document or wrong format somewhere in the number, used in your search. How does your search query looks like? Send me an example, best on patentdata@epo.org.
