adobe reader / pdf viewer Problem

Post by haeusec1 » Mon Aug 03, 2009 4:14 pm

Dear all

We have a problem by handling PDF's with Epo Online Filing.
1. Step : Open on your PC a PDF file.
2. Step : Start Epoline Online Filing
3. Step : Open an EP Application and try to open a PDF where you see on the left side all documents (xml,PDF)

Then the following Warning Message pop's up :
"Please close all instances of Acrobat Reader. Otherwise, they will be closed automatically."

Does anybody know this problem ?
Is it possible to disable this message ?

If you click ok on the warning message, then the system closes the open PDF's.

Thanks for your answers
Christian

Dear haeusec1,

The software is actually working as designed. The online
filing software requires exclusive use of the PDF viewer
from your Adobe reader to view documents, and rather
than just close other instances, we try to give the user
the information first. There is no option to disable this
warning. It will as you probably have realised only not show
up if other instances of the PDF reader were running

Thanks Madu for your answer

As we work with an Citrix environment and
epoline online filing, it's possible to work
with this message, but it's not really
perfect.
If it would be possible to use the pdf
viewer not exclusive in an newer
Version this could help us to work faster
with the application !

Does anybody know when PCT form will
change to the new forms ?

What's going on with the WEB Version of
Epoline Filing ?
Do EPO have a time table to bring the WEB solution
to life ?

I did not see that working with epoline under citrix makes a difference to a single user workstation.
In both cases the pdfs of that single user gets closed. This is not really good, but I heard no complains from our users.
THe only difference is that epoline might show that warning even if another user on that citrix server uses adobe reader. But epoline can not close the other users pdfs and works fine after confirming the message.

Dear Omega

In our Citrix environment we see the same process as in your installation.
Epoline can't close other's users open pdfs, because they work with
an other userprofile.
We can only say that we are very lucky about this !

I want to run the OLF5 client on our Citrix servers, and I am running into the same problem. It seems to be picking up other Adobe Reader instances from other users in other sessions.

But if you just press OK, it works fine. It will load the documents, and at the same time other people in other sessions are also using Reader.

In other words.. if it works fine anyway, why then give the message? What is the point?
And why no way to disable it?

I am now stuck between a rock and a hard place with OLF5.

- I cant virtualise the application in MS APP-V because it wont see the Gemsafe drivers for the card reader
- I cant install it on the Citrix servers, because of this error message, our users would not find it acceptable
- I can install it on the client PC's again, like we did with OLF4, but this is exactly the non-standard situation we wanted to resolve. Its an administrative nightmare to have local software, when the rest of the company is standardized on Centralised software via the Citrix enviroment.
To make matters worse, when we install OLF5 on clients where OLF4 already exists, it will pop-up the unsuppresable message about deleting the previous version (which we dont want to). Again an extra hassle because it means we cant rolout the client seemlessly in the background(without bothering the user) when we need to.

I really cant blame OLF5 smart card interface for not working with APP-V, but the other issues are simply down to the application not wanting to "play nice" under pretty standard IT circumstances.

It is not an error message, and this was actually a solution to not being able to open PDfs withing OnlineFiling.
You thereby get warned in advance and with an OK, you see your PDfs.

I would also advise that you request the GemSAFE Libraries 5.2 from User support.
Should work better with a Citrix environment..
