Support for automation

For me, retrieving the full patstat dataset is quite a chore. Once I found the download page (this took me fully 30 minutes), there is no easy way to download everything. Clicking on each link in a web browser is both tedious and unreliable. The server only seems to support five or so simultaneous d...

Searching by US patent number

I'm trying to figure out how to determine a docdb_family_id for patents, given a US patent ID or application ID. What fields correlate to patent IDs or application IDs? I can't quite figure it out from the documentation. As an example, how would I locate this patent in the database? https://patents....

PATSTAT autumn 2016 checksums

Given how some users have had trouble with corrupt data when copying over the USB drive, it's extremely important to include checksums on the data. These are not listed anywhere I can find, so I created my own. There's no way for me to know if my files are completely valid, but it should at least il...

Inventor sequence number pre-2005

The data catalogue contains a couple notes about how inventor sequence numbers are inaccurate from 1971-2005: OECD patents database for US data post 1976-01-01 up to and including November 15th 2005 for Published Grants. This data does not contain sequence numbers, so they are allocated within PATST...

Amended 2015b tables

I saw a blog post about how amended tables for the 2015b version of patstat have been released, but I haven't been able to find any official information about this. I never got an email from patstat, nor is it listed anywhere I can find online. Where can I find the FTP links to download the new data?

Re: load PATSTAT to Postgresql

I saw, but it's not quite the same as having some shell scripts to load and check everything. Ideally, the two would be combined. I'm wondering if anyone would like to work on this with me.

Non-zero applicant and inventor sequence number

What does it mean when both the applicant sequence number and the inventor sequence number are greater than zero in the tls207_pers_appln table? I understand a zero in the applicant column indicates an inventor, and a zero in the inventor column indicates an applicant, but there's nothing in the doc...
