Re: Retrieving tables of random sample

Hi Jon, TABLESAMPLE is not supported by the driver we are using in PATSTAT Online. Nevertheless, there are many other ways to get a random sample. The technical identifier APPLN_ID is a sequential number assigned to the applications as they are loaded into the database. [[So it can be regarded as ra...

Re: Patent specialization by technology class for Greece

Hello Hannah, technology classes can be identified thought for example the patent classification scheme, be it IPC or CPC classess (at various levels of granularity). Another option would be to use the so called "technology fields and sectors" available via the TLS230 and TLS901 tables in PATSTAT. B...

Re: Only download newly added data from new version

Hi Tobias, your misconception seems that you assume that each new edition of PATSTAT is just the same as the previous plus some additional data. This is by far not the case. Let's see some examples: The EPO collects data from various offices and the timing of these deliveries are often not guarantee...

Re: Data completeness India

Hello Tomas,
the only reason for this is the missing data from the Indian patent office.
We are in permanent negotiations in order to improve the data flows.

Re: Best way to count DOCDB_FAMILY_ID

Hello Mike, there are a couple of flaws in the approach: the min(a2.appln_id) does not guarantee that you have the first application of the family, you are doing an aggregation using publications and if I understood correctly, you want to have a "family - level" final table. The main challenge is to...

2018b - 2019a person concordance table taking into account old person id's

The new PATSTAT 2019 Spring edition is now published. In this release, we have added names in original language (in asian, cyrillic, arab characters) to the person records. There are many cases where persons with different names in original language were previously merged together because they have ...

Re: Pendency data by technical area

Hello jmaccormack2605 , I had a quick glance at the link you send. I assume that by "technical area" you meant the "patent technology centers" data in the scoreboards. As far as I can see, this is a USPTO scheme not used by other offices. A bit similar to what we used to have at the EPO with the clu...
