That should solve your problem, if only the data were accessible.

Re: ipc class versions patstat 2009

I also missed the subsequent replies. If I remember correctly, PATSTAT 2009 contains IPC classes for IPC version 2006-01-01 (also known as "IPC8"). PATSTAT 2011 (October) uses the same version. So no need for any concordance within PATSTAT. But if you are using very old IPC codes then you will need ...

Re: How to count distinct patent applications?

I have analyzed the German double patents, and these are my conclusions: The kind code is always D2 The filing date is always 9999-31-12 The IPR_TYPE is always "PI" APPLN_ID ranges from 907000848 to 908546224; this range seems to be reserved especially for D2 applications. Re: Worldwide count of priority filings

Thank you very much for making this practical example available to the community. Using priority counts has always been my preferred method to count patents, but as the OECD Patent Statistics Manual focuses on using PCT counts or families I was never sure whether it was an acceptable solution. So I'...

Re: can I use the applicant's origin in research?

By origin do you mean nationality or address? If address, then by looking at table `tls206_person` it is obvious that there are many missing country codes. It is also obvious that these aren't just people from (or in) Japan. If I'm not mistaken there's a post dealing with this issue on http://rawpat...

Re: ipc class versions patstat 2009

Don't forget ipc_class_level="A" otherwise you'll double count the IPC classes from the Core set. The distinct function fixes this, but the Core set may give a different unique set than the Advanced set so you still should use this criteria.
