Re: Support for automation

Hello Rachie, the download platform is indeed not the most user-friendly one. The link to the download page is included in the e-mail when we announce the uploading of the new PATSTAT release. For the purpose of scripting, we offer you to make use of our REST interface. The attached PDF explains det...

Re: Forward and Backward Citation

Hello Wei, continuing on the same example; and assuming you mean "granted of the cited documents" you can simply "JOIN" a tls201_appln table to the "Cited" table (alias), and then add the attribute "GRANTED" in your SELECT clause. That will give for each citation a value "Y" or "N", depending on whe...

Re: Forward and Backward Citation

Hello Wei, the person_ctry_code is the country code used for correspondence, we also call it the "place of business". It has no link to nationality or citizenship. About the tls226 table, the residence code is only used in US data and only about 1200 inventors have a residence_ctry_code <> person_ct...

Re: Forward and Backward Citation

Hello Wei, A couple of observations: In your query, you tried to count at the same time the forward and the backward citations. If one would want to do this, the query would need to have 2 joins via tls212, one to the forward citations and one to the backward citations. I feel this is needlessly com...

Re: forward citation (Families)

Hello Manual, the purpose of the limitation on a time frame for forward citations is to avoid bias. In simple words: patents that were published in 2010 will have had more opportunity to become cited then a patent application that was published in 2017. Therefore researchers look at the date of publ...

Re: forward citation (Families)

Hello Manual,
can you give some examples or share your code ?
And why it would be a problem.

Re: patent citation (backward citation)

Hallo Davor, I kindly refer to the PATSTAT webpage for detailed information. Small data sets (up to 100.000 applications from 1 query) can be downloaded via PATSTAT Online. You can obtain 1 month free access via the online registration form: https://www.epo.org/searching-for-patents/business/patstat...

Re: Utility Model Priority Application

Hello Lionpat, here is a query that links utility models filed in DE with their US priority filings. To look for DE utility models that served as priority for later US applications, simply switch the joins on the tls204 table. SELECT p.person_name, psn_name,pa.applt_seq_nr ,a.appln_nr_epodoc, a.ipr_...

Re: Gap betweeen US patent counts & DocDB simple family counts

Hello Thomas, this is due to the endless series of (US) divisional applications originating from 6 "parent" US applications. The process to assign DOCDB_FAMILY_IDs takes into account not only the so called Paris Convention priorities but also the data in TLS2016_APPLN_CONTN and TLS205_TECH_REL. Have...

Re: ISA?

Here is an addition to my previous post in this thread: I forgot to mention that the situation has changed in the newest PATSTAT edition: This 2018 Spring Edition is available as PATSTAT data since early October and will be available soon in PATSTAT Online. In the 2018 Autumn Edition of PATSTAT Glob...
