Re: Can find some company applicant names from TLS206_PERSON

Hello jsuch, without your SQL query, it is not possible to see what could be wrong on your query. In principle, data available in ESPACENET should be available in PATSTAT, with the exception of data that was added to DOCDB after the data was extracted for the PATSTAT production cycle. (mostly data a...

Re: Patent Citation with PATSTAT

So what does the column "nb_citing_docdb_fam" mean? It is: "Number of distinct DOCDB simple families citing at least one of the publications or applications of the DOCDB simple family of the current application (search report citations from TLS212_CITATION)" You will find this information (and much ...

Mapping data completeness of PATSTAT Global.

When doing advanced statistical analysis, it is important to understand the coverage and content of the data you are working with. PATSTAT Global contains data coming from all over the world. Quality, timeliness and completeness vary a great deal depending on your data selection approach. Therefore ...

Re: Errors setting foreign keys in Postgresql

Regarding your point 1: Yes, there is a slight inconsistency, due to some earlier data cleaning. But I only see a single inconsistency, not 2 occurrences; You can resolve this issue by removing the record with PERSON_ID = 52249751 from table TLS226_PERSON_ORIG. The next PATSTAT version will correct ...

Re: Count of Utility Model Applications

Hell lionpat, your question is rather an SQL- syntax problem then a PATSTAT question. Here is a query that gives you the top 20 UM filers in Germany per year, based on their total number of UM applications. SELECT top 20 psn_name, COUNT(distinct(case when year(appln_filing_date) = 2000 then tls201_a...

Re: Family Cleaned Forwrad Patent Citations

Hello Vanessa, To make it easy, I only look at citations of publications; citations to applications are rather minimal in comparison. The basics: Your forward citations are in principle the same as a backward citation, if A cites B then B is cited by A. Logics define that B cannot be cited by A, unl...

Re: Help with SQL query_caunt applications per Country

Your query is perfectly fine. I ran it on PATSTAT Online and it took just 7 seconds to retrieve all 48 901 rows. In case you used PATSTAT Online, please try it again. Probably the system had some hick-up. Note that PATSTAT Online kills all queries automatically if they take more than 1 hour. So wait...

Re: IPC classes and the technology field description

The data from table TLS901_TECHN_FIELD_IPC is taken from an Excel sheet published by WIPO, which does not contain the descriptions of the IPC symbols it contains. Descriptions and further information about IPCs are not part of PATSTAT. They can be accessed from WIPO in XML, HTML or PDF format(www.wi...

Hello Rachie, the download platform is indeed not the most user-friendly one. The link to the download page is included in the e-mail when we announce the uploading of the new PATSTAT release. For the purpose of scripting, we offer you to make use of our REST interface. The attached PDF explains det...

Re: Forward and Backward Citation

Hello Wei, continuing on the same example; and assuming you mean "granted of the cited documents" you can simply "JOIN" a tls201_appln table to the "Cited" table (alias), and then add the attribute "GRANTED" in your SELECT clause. That will give for each citation a value "Y" or "N", depending on whe...
