Re: Change in URL format?

Dear Cameron, in principle, this URL change should not have happened at all because it broke many links coming from various applications. And when URL's change, we establish URL re-directs to avoid broken links. The problem seems to have originated from a change in the re-direct links and not the ap...

Re: Change in URL format?

Dear Cameron, thank you for pointing out the broken link(s). Yes we had seen it, and our team is looking into fixing the issue. The link from ESPACENET to Register should be working by now. The right-click link in the Register is not working - because it also used the broken link. Other users or app...

Re: Time window to control forward-citations

Here is your query with a count of the forward citations. SELECT a.appln_id, a.appln_nr_epodoc, a.appln_auth, a.appln_filing_year, a.ipr_type, a.granted, a.docdb_family_id, a.nb_citing_docdb_fam, a.nb_applicants, a.nb_inventors, tls206_person.psn_id, tls206_person.psn_name, count(distinct(e.pat_publ...

PATSTAT Online: use of STRING_AGG(...) and aliases problem

Many PATSTAT Online users ask how to create "lists" that "group" data which is split over a number of different tables. PATSTAT is a relational data base, and -as you might expect- most of the data is what we call "normalised" in order to reduce data redundancy and impr...

Re: Time window to control forward-citations

Hello Eduardo, the methodology in "An introduction to the Patstat database with example queries - Query8" introduction_to_PATSTAT_database_with_example_queries_en.pdf is based on calculating the difference between the earliest publication of an application and the earliest publication date...

Re: Firm/Nr of Patents/ Forward Citations

Hello Anuisa, Firm numbers are not available in PATSTAT. On the topic of "forward citations", there are plenty of forum posts with example queries that cover that topic. I also would recommend you to have a look at self learning material on the PATSTAT webpages: https://www.epo.org/searchi...

Re: Search Database with ISIN code

Hello Anisa, PATSTAT does not contain ISIN or any other means of formal identification through codes for the patent applicants. That kind of information is not collected by the EPO. One has to keep in mind that even "natural persons" who do not have a VAT or company registration number can...

Re: Patent fractional count and forward citations

Dear Simone, If you can live with the "family based" forward citations, then simply take the nb_citing_docdb_fam attribute. "Application based" data would involve using the tls211 and tls212 tables and then "grouping" the data at application level. This is quasi impossi...

Re: Definition of inventor

Dear John123, Distinguishing in PATSTAT between applicant and inventor is fairly easy by means of the tls207 (for applications) or tls227 (for publications) in combination with the tls206_person table. PATSTAT users have the full freedom to direct their search to only consider applicants, inventors ...

NUTS 2 based data - example using Germany

Many users are asking how to create NUTS 2 based tables -similar to what Eurostat used to do-. NUTS based data at the lower levels (2-3) can only be created for persons (applicants and inventors) where there is good address data available. In the person table you will find the most granular NUTS cod...
