an invalid reference was used in request
Hi,
I have requested a few patent numbers recently where I see "an invalid reference was used in request" as an error message, with a status of 404.
The request I am using is the same format as for other patents which work fine, yet a few seem to return this error.
This is an example of a request that i send including a patent number which returns the error described above:
3.1/rest-services/published-data/search/full-cycle/?q=ct=US8077695*&range=1-100
It of course begins with the ops epo org part, but it wouldn't let me post that as one long url as it was considered to be spam!
Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: an invalid reference was used in request
Dear user,
Same request works fine for me but I don't use truncation:
http://ops.epo.org/3.1/rest-services/pu ... DUS8077695
As mentioned few times in this forum, there is no need to search numbers in CQL search because this search is made mostly for searching keywords, date ranges and names.
Better option when you know application or publication number is to use number search:
http://ops.epo.org/3.1/rest-services/pu ... full-cycle
Or in case of your US:
http://ops.epo.org/3.1/rest-services/pu ... 695/biblio
http://ops.epo.org/3.1/rest-services/pu ... .B2/biblio
http://ops.epo.org/3.1/rest-services/pu ... full-cycle
Kind regards,

Re: an invalid reference was used in request
Thanks for that information. I'll have a look at using the publication number directly.
Do you know why it is that the link i posted doesn't work? The same style works for almost every other request that I have made.

Re: an invalid reference was used in request
Can you give me an example where truncation worked in CQL search in combination with number?
Usually wild cards should work only on the Title, Title or abstract , Inventor or Applicant or Full text fields. But if you had examples where you got results by adding "*" then I would like you to see one.

Re: an invalid reference was used in request
I see now that I missread your issue. You were looking for cited references and I was talking about pn- publication number. Very sorry about that:-)
There should be 3 cited documents for your US so it looks like a problem on our side with that specific document. I will ask IT to fix it. Still, wildcard is not needed in ct seach on CQL.
Sorry again for missunderstanding,

Re: an invalid reference was used in request
Dear all,
For everyone else reading this thread:
CQL search in OPS (same as Smart Search in Espacenet) can give you two kinds of citation data that are also available in Espacenet:http://worldwide.espacenet.com/publicat ... EPODOC&locale=en_EP
CITED REFERENCES/CITATIONS
1. if you are interested in "cited "references/citations you can use CQL search in combination with biblio constituent (full-cycle is not useful since citations are only present in the first publication stage)
http://ops.epo.org/3.1/rest-services/pu ... DEP1027777
Another way to get cited references would be via numbers search in Published services (EP1027777 is Euro-PCT so in order to see cited references you need to search for corresponding WO):
http://ops.epo.org/3.1/rest-services/pu ... 468/biblio
CITING PUBLICATIONS
2. if you are interested in "citing" documents, to get a list of such documents where certain publication number is cited, use CQL search but without biblio or full-cycle constituent:
http://ops.epo.org/3.1/rest-services/pu ... DEP1027777
If you leave constituents in your query you will get citing publication (s) and cited references for each such citing publication.
In CQL search you don't need to use wild-cards for numbers or Docdb format, just use Epodoc format, same as you would do for Espacenet.
Users problems with retrieval of mentioned US documents have also been solved in the meantime.
Kind regards,
