Hi guys,
I am currently working on a project in which I would like to include:
1. The number of patents in the OECD countries over the time period 1985-2000
2. The number of forward citations made to those patents for the same sample
I am quite new to the PATSTAT database and I just got of the phone with an EPO employee who said this wasn't possible. However, do you guys know a way to substract this data from the database?
Thanks in advance,
Pim
Availability time-series patents and citations
Re: Availability time-series patents and citations
Sorry to hear that a colleague of mine has given you the wrong answer. PATSTAT can answer your questions. Actually, it has been designed for exactly these types of information needs.
Please note that PATSTAT is not a database which contains ready-made statistics, but provides the data structured in a way to facilitate easy, flexible and powerful analytics. Advanced analytics can be made with PATSTAT, but one needs to have some basic skills in SQL querying. To familiarized yourself with PATSTAT data and to get started, you can find a bunch of documents on the EPO home page: http://www.epo.org/searching-for-patent ... .html#tab1
