Post by kane0615 » Sat Jul 18, 2020 4:44 am

Hi! I wonder know that is the espacenet database can use the "family number" to searching patents?
Because the family number is including in the downloaded result list, but I can not find where I can use the family number for advance search.
Thank you very much.

Dear user,

unfortunately the family number cannot be used for searching.

The purpose of the number in the result list is, that you can de-duplicate hits of consecutive searches. The idea is that you might hit on different publications of the same family depending on your search terms. When downloading the list and merging them in Excel you may use the sorting function according to the patent family number to identify those duplicate appearance of the same patent family, which would not be possible without the family number.

I hope this clarifies the situation.
Kind regards
