I am new to Espacenet and I wonder compared to Google Patents, is there more documents in Espacenet?
The espacenet search user interface seems much better.
Any hints would be appreciated.

Dear user,

Thank you for your question.

Espacenet contains over 120 million patent documents from over 100 patent offices, the oldest patent document dating from 1782.

With regards to Google patents, we can only relate to the following Google Patents' coverage link, where it says: "Google Patents includes over 120 million patent publications from 100+ patent offices around the world, as well as many more technical documents and books indexed in Google Scholar and Google Books, and documents from the Prior Art Archive.".

Google Patent, therefore, also includes searchable non-patent literature, which Espacenet does not, because Espacenet is exclusively a patent search tool.

As far as the functionality of the two tools is concerned, you will find extra features which are found in one tool and not the other. You have, for example, more filters possibilities in Espacenet than in Google Patent and a direct access to Patent Translate to have the abstract, description or claims machine translated against 32 languages for EN, DE and FR or against English for Asian and Russian languages.

Kind regards,

Andrée
