Concordance Between DOCDB and INPADOC

Post by patentmaster » Sun Sep 24, 2017 11:28 pm

Hi,

Is any update made to the DOCDB reflected also in INPADOC and vice versa, e.g. when a new EPA/USA etc. is published and included in DOCDB does it also appear in INPADOC as a legal event and if so, do the updates have a time lag i.e. first appearing in DOCDB and then in INPADOC after e.g. a week or the other way around. For which countries does this apply?

Thanks

Hi,

Publishing a documents is not a legal event. This data is a part of bibliographic data set (all information on a first page of patent document is bibliographic data and therefore loaded in DOCDB). Legal events in INPADOC represent events in a life of a file, such as intention to grant, payment of fees, filed opposition and so on. Those events are only available in INPADOC legal status. DOCDB and INPADOC share only very small part of biblio and are usually combined in order to give detailed overview on specific application. Also, at the EPO, a bibliographic data is always first loaded and represents a basis for adding all subsequent information such as abstracts, full text, families, legal status, which all come later, dependiong on jurisdiction that provides us with that data. Without bibliographic data there can be no legal events loaded, except for certain regional applications (PCT or EURO/PCT) where legal events of entries in national phase can be linked to the regional application even when no national biblio is available.

See above my thread with the list of tables available on Weekly updated pages to see weekly updates of coverage for DOCDB and for INPADOC if you want details on what we publish when.

Hi thank you for your response.

Can you inform me of the current uncompressed size of the DOCDB / INPADOC XML collections in GB?

Thanks.

Hi,

DOCDB and INPADOC are sold as entire archive with all bibliographic records/legal status events in our database, so I cannot tell you any sizes other than total sizes per back file and approximate front file sites, and even those only zipped.

INPADOC: https://www.epo.org/searching-for-paten ... html#tab-2
