Concordance table between IPC and NACE2

Post by mkracker » Thu Nov 12, 2020 12:06 pm

NACE2 is the Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in the European Community, Rev. 2 (2008) (Nomenclature statistique des activités économiques dans la Communauté européenne). It serves a similar purpose as the SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) and the NAICS (North American Industry Classification System). This concordance table maps IPC sub classes / IPC main groups to the first 2-4 digits of the hierarchical NACE code.

The attached Excel file contains this concordance table in the columns IPCV2015, NACE2 and NACE2_TITLE. PATSTAT has re-formatted this information for easier processing and made it available in table TLS902_IPC_NACE2.

Using this reference table, PATSTAT already computed in table TLS229_APPLN_NACE2 the relation between applications and their NACE2 classification.

Note that this mapping maps all IPC codes only to NACE codes which represent manufacturing industries.

The data on which this table is based is provided by EUROSTAT in co-operation with KU Leuven / Belgium. The data and the methodology to create them is described in the attached PDF document.
