Coverage

Post by schlechter » Tue May 21, 2019 3:00 pm

Performing same keyword search in old espacenet EN fulltext and new espacenet (NE) gives huge differences in the results.
I guess that is due to the added Asian translations which were rare in old espacenet.
However, you find no clear Information about the loaded Asean fulltext in NE, and the searchable Fulltext coverage Information on related links is more ment for EPOQUE and not for espacenet (yet).
Tried to explore about the e.g. CN searchable Fulltext in new Espacenet and came about 10 M docs.
However I have no idea if this is correct.
Same holds good for KR and JP fulltext.
Can you provide up to date coverage Information on those countries, and about future plans, please?
Thank you

Dear Burkhard,

Thank you for your question. Coverage of new Espacenet should be comparable to that of EPOQUE and hence of old Espacenet as displayed at https://www.epo.org/searching-for-paten ... tions.html (Latest bibliographic coverage). The search results can, however, be different due to the indexing of bulk translated documents in new Espacenet, especially for Asian documents. We are in the process of producing data coverage statistics directly related to new Espacenet.
Kind regards

Hi,

Not sure which coverage info you are waiting for but we only have one set of character-coded full text and that data is same in both Espacenet(s): https://www.epo.org/searching-for-paten ... ions.html

One question, the comparison you were doing was that between Worldwide version of Classic Espacenet or the version with only EN full text in Classic? If you compare Worldwide database of Classic with New Espacenet you should theoretically not have gaps. If you do then we need to check your search queries to see if the searches you are doing are really exactly the same. Classic Espacenet with EN only text has less documents so if you were comparing this data set with new Espacenet then the gap will be very big, of course.

Regards,

Due to the indexing of bulk translated materials in the new Espacenet, the search results may alter, particularly for Asian content. We're currently putting up data coverage statistics for the new Espacenet.

Is it possible for the EPO to supply an MSI package for this installation? That would make GPO distribution of the installation much easier...

Dear user,

I was in contact with the person in charge for machine translations. To possibly answer your questions, he would like to know: 1) what do you want to install and where? 2) what do you mean by ""MSI" package for the installation and "GPO" distribution of the installation? Please note that the bulk translation is not a client-faced application.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Do you have any information on how soon the preparations will be completed?

We cannot provide for the moment regular or daily updates of the Espacenet data coverage with regards to EN bulk machine translated full-texts. But here below is a snapshot of its coverage at the date of 10.12.2021 to give your a flavour of its coverage.
