CPC class 'F21Y2115/30' empty?

Here you can post your opinions, ask questions and share experiences on the PATSTAT product line. Please always indicate the PATSTAT edition (e.g. 2015 Autumn Edition) and the database (e.g. PATSTAT Online, MySQL, MS SQL Server, ...) you are using.

CPC class 'F21Y2115/30' empty?

Post by harpios » Wed Sep 14, 2016 3:22 pm

Good afternoon

After having tried several versions to retrieve the number of documents in the CPC class mentioned in the subject line, I have always received 0 results. Other classes such as F21Y2101/00 give results with the exact same query. In espacenet, I also find more than a thousand entries. Could somebody please help me to understand those differences?

Thank you very much in advance

Sometimes you cannot compare data from Espacenet and PATSTAT because they represent data from different points of time: Espacenet is incrementally updated daily, while PATSTAT is completely re-created 2x / year. If you are now using the latest PATSTAT 2016 Spring Edition, then in fact you see the data as of end of January 2016. PATSTAT is designed for statistical analysis and not for state of the art search, so up-to-dateness is not of primary importance.

When you check CPC symbol F21Y2115/30 in Espacenet's classification browser (https://worldwide.espacenet.com/classif ... 21Y2115/30) you see from the warnings that some reclassification of CPC symbols was or is going on in F21Y2115/00. I strongly assume this explains why symbol F21Y2115/30 did not exist back in January 2016, when PATSTAT sourced it's data.

You might want to analyse your results from Espacenet to find out how these thousand entries have been classified earlier, or write to cpc-at-epo.org for more information.

I hope I could help,
Martin
