CPC symbols and their sequence in result list

Post by AndreasWagnerBerlin » Mon Feb 15, 2021 11:52 am

Dear Team,

I have a question regarding the sequence of CPC symbols in result list.
Your "Guidelines for Examination PartB > Chapter V > "4. CPC classification of the application"
states:
The CPC comprises "invention information" symbols and "additional information" symbols. Additional information symbols encompass the use of CPC indexing codes. Where it is necessary to assign more than one CPC classification symbol for the invention itself, the symbol which, in the search division's opinion, most adequately identifies the invention, or, when this presents difficulties, the symbol which identifies the invention for which most information is given, is indicated first.
Can I assume, that the Espacenet result list also shows the most relevant CPC class in the first position?

Best regards

Dear Mr. Wagner,

After clarification with some colleagues we came to the conclusion that the sequence of the CPC codes in the bibliographic data tab in Espacenet does not always indicate which of the codes identifies best the invention . However, in accordance with the Guide to IPC "invention information" is displayed in bold (eg. B28B 5/00) and "additional information" in non-bold (e.g. H01H 33/65). For further information please also consult the Guide to CPC.

Hopefully you find this helpful.
Kind regards
