Hey,

are there specific times the OPS database is being updated?
For instance, when am I going to be able to see a patent that has been pusblished today (28.05.2019)?
Looking at some current results, I get the feeling there are database updates every Tuesday and Thursday. Is that corrent?

Best regards,
jpatent

Hi,

I am not sure which jurisdiction you mean with “data published on 28.5” but OPS, just like Espacenet, is updated daily. But we don't get all worldwide data on the day of publication (prior to publication, actually) from their respective country. So, EP data gets published every Wednesday at 14:00 and it is at the same time automatically triggered into all tools. Then we have other collections like DE and FR that are usually available on their publication date but few hours after they get publish by their respective offices. We do have countries that provide data more than only once per week, like CN and then there are many other countries that only provide us data weekly (after publication), bi-weekly, monthly or even only few times per year. You can see when what gets loaded (as far as biblio data) here: https://www.epo.org/searching-for-paten ... tions.html . This coverage gets updated every week day after 09:00 CEST.

So, the bottom line is that we update and load new biblio every day of the working week, but we only load new biblio data as we get it and when we get it from respective offices so we will not always have data on the actual publication date of such worldwide document. Many office like to reserve the right to publish new data on their website/register first.

I hope that helps you.

Hello,

I understand that when patent data are received they loaded into OPS as son as possible.

But I know that in many cases there is a long interval between the publication date and the date in which the patent data are available in OPS.

What I want to know is if there is a date of addition field in OPS that allows to retrieve data for publications loaded in the database, for instance, during the last two weeks. I have to use the pd field instead and I may miss data related to publications that are loaded in the database, lets say, two months after the publication date.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

No, because that is not what OPS is for, this is something you need to use DOCDB for. DOCDB is database used by all commercial producers and offices, including your office, that have to build and update their databases.

OPS is automated access to Espacenet and Register only, mostly to be used for on a fly searches because it allows only restricted number of responses (2000 per query).

If you would want to use OPS after you have processed DOCDB weekly files to load other data then biblio you could just use weekly statistics that you get in every exchange package (two packages per week) and use that list for newly added or changed (or deleted) documents. You have that luxury because you have both products. But OPS as such has no last exchange or added info, first of all because it’s not a bulk downloading tool or a watch service and because date of adding data in our database has no legal bearing in any data procedures and we don’t want people to mistake it as such.

In your case just make a use of DOCDB weekly statistics that you get in every package and you have exactly what you need.
