eOLF 3.20 Server Manager - Backup Problems

Post by Geoff Amabilino » Wed Apr 23, 2008 12:05 pm

Hello,

We have an issue with the backup service in the Server Manager, and would like to know whether anyone else has seen and overcome the problem.

We run eOLF in client/server mode with approx. 40 users. Due to problems with the EPC2000 update, we built a new server on Win2003 server. and managed to transfer the database from the old server (Win2000).

Now when we try to use the Backup utility in Server Manager to backup or restore the database, we get an error 'Error occurred while database restoring (or backuping): Cannot attach to services manager' and the process fails. We can sometimes get it to work by stopping the services manually in Server Manager, but not reliably. We have confirmed this behaviour on a second Win2003 server installation.

EPO technical support have been told, but no news so far. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks.

Geoff

Geoff,

Did you access the server via a Remote Desktop Connection? If yes, just try to add /console to the command line (e.g. %SystemRoot%\system32\mstsc.exe /console).

Best regards,
Jens

Hi Jens,

You are a star - that seems to work a treat!

We will test on another server, and will report back if we hit any further problems.

Best regards

Geoff

Running RDP in console mode still did not fix it for me.

The simple fact is that you need to use VNC or another type of desktop scraping software in order to use any of the EPO products installed on the server successfully. RDP doesnt cut it.
