EU commission recommends supporting OpenDocument format

Post by alexthurgood » Mon Jan 13, 2014 4:18 pm

Happy New Year to all,

So here we are once more, finally the EU commission has recommended directly supporting ODF :

https://joinup.ec.europa.eu/community/o ... ent-format

Where does the EPO stand on the question (again) ?

I note, with some despair, that in the Web Filing and E-mail filing projects, the EPO will accept submissions in OOXML and even convert them to PDF or their internal XML representation for those participating in the projects. No mention of the same offer for ODF documents though.

Please wake up to the reality of ODF being used in public and private organisations.

<Shakes head in disbelief>

A brief follow-up :

The UK government has recently announced mandatory usage of ODF as one of the standardised document formats, to the exclusion of OOXML, for use in its exchanges with its citizens.

Since 2011, Denmark was also supposed to have the same requirement.

The French government and various other administrations (Minstry of Defence, Gendarmerie Nationale, Ministry of Agriculture, among others) already widely use ODF, although seemingly not the INPI - wonder why that is ?

Norway mandated suport for ODF in government-made documents intended for public use.

Still nothing from the EPO ?
