Give us your feedback!

Post by OSCommunication » Tue Jun 08, 2010 3:49 pm

1. What do you like best about Online Filing V5? What would you like to see improved in a potential V6?

2. When we talk about "efficiency": What could be changed in Online Filing so that your daily routine could be rendered more efficient through Online Filing?

3. How do you see the future of Online Filing in general? How do you see your future way of working with the EPO and which role does Online Filing play in this scenario?

I think that implementing online filing as a standalone software is the wrong direction. The functionality of OLF could as well be provided with a web application. That would do away with the need of frequently installing updates on end-user systems. It would also be operating system agnostic, thus enabling users with non-Windows installations to use online filing.

The USPTO is already providing their online filing service as a web application. They use software certificates and a proprietary Java applet for authentication. The EPO could simply use the existing smartcards for authentication (using the pkcs11 module provided by the GemSAFE libraries or the one provided by OpenSC).

I have the same feeling. Online filing is a great tool. However, local filing software shall really disappear: Epoline5 is totally user unfriendly, network properties are unreachable after setup, the software is unstable, drivers are not directly available for Windows 8, setup with patches lasts ages, update control is unreachable...
Local software induces too many problems on the user side, we are lighting candles for a web online filing.
