The addition of file wrapper data from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) introduced last month completes the coverage of file wrapper information from the IP5 Offices.

Within the European Patent Register you access first a European patent application and then its family members in the Global Dossier service.

Global Dossier in Espacenet goes further, taking you straight from a Chinese, Japanese, Korean or US patent document to the original record in the database. Because Espacenet is not subject to the requirement for a patent family link to a European patent application, you can also retrieve patent applications in China, Japan, Korea and the US which have no European family members.
Global Dossier has received considerable praise from users for providing the access to full file for each patent application at the EPO as well as the patent offices of China, Japan, Korea and now the United States from one central place. The ease of use and freely available machine translations into English mean that usage levels are already far exceeding expectations.

To ensure a stable environment and fair use for all of our users, the number of files that can be accessed per IP address is limited to 50 per day in these early days of the service. This restriction may be reviewed in the future.

Please take a few seconds to send us your feedback on the service. We are also very interested to hear your comments, suggestions and wishes.

We look forward to hearing from you,
