I wonder what you can do with that "Group" function in advanced search? Is it for replacing the 'OR'-Operator in a list of terms? Obviously you can't use it in context with proximity Operator?

I use it for bracketing:

The group function can be used to group logical units. It also makes it easier to visually "read" a search query compared to the single line search. E.g. when the main Boolean operator is a Boolean "AND", you can insert a group with synonyms which are combined with a Boolean "OR" within the group.

Proximity operators are associated with a specific field and can be combined with groups.
