Help on a strategy :-)

Good afternoon everyone,

Currently enrolled in a Data Analysis course in my university, my friend and I have to deliver a project soon. We decided to focus on patent data. We have a strong will to give visualizations of topics extracted from patents abstract over the time :-) that would enable to see the time evolution of papers interests etc.

That said, I would like to ask for your advice on how to aggregate most possible data with the following fields
paper_author ; paper_id ; abstract ; author_localization ; paper_submitted_date ;

I've used a little bit the API, which is very nice! I find myself limited because when browsing on patents, many don't have english abstracts. Well I would love to have some idea of the best strategy to get to my goals using your API, for example if there are possible filters in the queries ? So that I don't have to actually browse on all patents and keep only those that have "en" language abstracts for example. Or things like this.

Hope you get my feeling and can help,

Thank you,
Arnaud

Dear Arnaud,

Thank you for your question. :D

OPS does not allow to filter for documents with abstract in English. However a study of the kind you are interested in can be more easily conducted when using our application PATSTAT online, provided you are familiar with SQL language. Depending on the quantity of data you require, PATSTAT biblio might also be an option.

Please find more information under the following link

Or visit the dedicated PATSTAT Forum.

We wish you good luck,
