Hello
I have question in understanding the INID code (41) and (42).
Here is the definition:
(41) Date of making available to public by viewing, or copying on request, an unexamined patent document, on which no grant has taken place on or before the said date.
(42) Date of making available to public by viewing, or copying on request, an examined patent document, on which no grant has taken place on or before the said date

Could you please give me a more detailed explanation about this? Also please give me some examples concerning these to codes if any.
Thank you.

Hello ymboschpi,

INID codes are issued by WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization). Here is a link to the ST 9 recommendations for INID codes:

http://www.wipo.int/export/sites/www/st ... -09-01.pdf

Please note that the EPO uses INID codes 43 and 45 and not 41 and 42.

Thank you for your answer.
INID codes 43 and 45 are shown in the first page of the patent documents frequently.
But i have difficulty in understanding the INID codes 41 and 42.
Could you help me explaining the INID codes 41 and 42?

Hello ymboschpi,

(41) Date of making available to public by viewing, or copying on request, an unexamined patent document, on which no grant has taken place on or before the said date.

(42) Date of making available to public by viewing, or copying on request, an examined patent document, on which no grant has taken place on or before the said date.

The difference is in the wording, "viewing or copying on request" ... and "unexamined" or "examined" patent. INID 43 and 45 definitions quote Date of making available to the public by printing or similar process

As mentioned previously the European Patent Office does not use INIDS (41) and (42) so for further information I suggest you contact your local patent office or WIPO http://www.wipo.int
