How to search for a specific industry/list of codes

Post by Bouke » Fri Jan 08, 2016 9:26 am

Dear Forum,

I am currently researching the medical technology industry in the Netherlands in 2014.
For this I am trying to compile a list of patents in Espacenet, but so far the only search terms I know to use are "2014" for publication date and "NL" for applicant.

Is there an easy way to only select patents that relate to medical or medical technologies? otherwise im afraid ill have to sift through a lot of patents by hand...

Kind regards,

Bouke

Hi Bouke,

To limit your search to a specific area of technology, we suggest you use the Classification search tool in Espacenet.

You can enter relevant keywords in the search box and the system will recommend the most relevant CPC classes according to your keywords. To open the sub-classes of the CPC groups, simply click on the title. Once you have defined the class most relevant to the specific area of technology, tick the box to the left of the description and click on Copy to search form.

From the Advanced search screen you can continue your search by entering NL in the publication number field and 2004 in the publication date field. You will then be searching for Dutch publications published in the year 2004 within a certain area of technology.

I hope this helps you!

Kind regards,
Lisa
