India: Issuance of patent certificates now fully automated

Post by EPO / Asia Info » Wed Aug 02, 2017 9:52 am

Dear users,

At the beginning of July the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks (CGPDTM) has launched a fully automated process for issuance and electronic dispatch of the patent certificates.

The certificates for patents issued after 03 July 2017 can be accessed via the official database of the Indian Patent Office (InPASS)

To view a patent certificate:
• Access the InPASS database http://ipindiaservices.gov.in/publicsearch
• Perform a search using the user interface (for example search for patent number 284943)
• Go to section Application Status and click on the subsection View Documents
• In the online file inspection look for document title “4860-DELNP-2007-PatentCertificateDD-MM-YYYY.pdf

The patent certificate contains information on the date of the grant and the due date when the renewal fees need to paid on regular basis.

The certificate is accompanied by a cover letter which contains information on the date of the entry in the Register of Patents, which is the date used for the calculation of the due date for the very first payment of renewal fees which are due at this point. The link to the most recent fees schedule is also provided in this communication.

In case of questions, please post them here at this forum or feel free to contact us directly at asiainfo@epo.org regarding this or other topics related to patent information from Asia and other regions.

With kind regards,

Your Asian Patent Information Services Team
