Dear all,
We would like to take this opportunity to inform you on the new number format introduced by the UIMB for applications and priorities
Currently, UIBM assigns application numbers in two distinct formats: one corresponding to the previously used format (e.g. UB2006P000904 ) and a new “online” application format (e.g. 102015000005328). The conversion between the two numbers used can be obtained from this resource [url]http://www.uibm.gov.it/uibm/dati/Codice.aspx .[/url
In order to establish a smooth transition from the old number format to the new number format, the EPO has introduced a cut-over date:
Date of filing before 01-07-2016
IT applications will be represented in the OLD format
Date of filing from 01-07-2016 onwards
IT applications will be represented in the NEW format
Unfortunately – due to technical constraints – there is no possibility to maintain the new number format in DOCDB in its original representation of 15 digits.
To overcome these technical issues an algorithm has been put in place to compress the new number from 15 digits into 12 digits
Patent applications
‘10’ representing the kind of application is dropped – is represented in DOCDB by kind-code ‘A’
leading zero in the sequence number is suppressed – embedded value, not significant
Utility models
‘20’ representing the kind of application is dropped – is represented in DOCDB by kind-code ‘U’
leading zero in the sequence number is suppressed – embedded value, not significant.
