Kind of citations in LOD

Post by Alberto231 » Wed Aug 29, 2018 8:01 am

Hello,

I ask you if the present version of EPO linked data differentiates between the different kind of citations, as for example available in EPO OPS, which differentiates between applicant, examiner, opponent, third party and some other cases.

Thank you and best regards

No, the origin of the citation (from search, from examination, opposition, third party observation etc.) is not in the data. However, citations provided by the applicant himself have been excluded from the data, because their value is typically very poor. Consequently, the citations which are left in the data have a high quality level.

In the design of this linked open data set we tried to keep it simple enough to be comprehensible by a wider user community including non-patent experts, but still being useful for many purposes.

Best regards,
Martin / EPO

Thank you for the reply.

I agree on the design decision used for citations in LOD.
