New version of the cryptovision software 8.0.12

Post by Martinadu » Tue Feb 15, 2022 4:32 pm

We are pleased to announce that version 8.0.12 of cryptovision has now been released to our download page. This version is strongly recommended for users, where all kind or issues are taking place.
We have used it multiple times to resolve problems in Windows, Macintosh and even Linux/Ubuntu.

Secondly updated installation instructions have also been uploaded as well.

In Windows, it will allow your card to be read even without configuring Firefox.
In Macintosh, it will support up to the latest MacOS 12 (Monterrey) and even the M1 (with latest Firefox)

Hi Martinadu,

Can you post a link to the latest Cryptovision software 8.0.12 which you refer to. The software link provided by the EPO support team appears to link to the 8.0 version https://www.epo.org/applying/online-ser ... ation.html

The current version 8.0 is not working with M2 Apple Silicon MacBooks.

Thanks in advance.

Just to follow up I managed to get this working using scinterface-8.0.12.708-MacOSX-11_4.pkg and following the updated instructions on the most recent version of Firefox. The issue is that the mac zip file has 3 different .dmg files. Use scInterface-8.0.12.708-MacOSX-11_4.dmg for M1 - M2.

After upgrading to Linux Ubuntu 22.04 (or other Ubuntu flavour: Kubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, Xubuntu...) users can no longer login to filing.epo.org
Error message is:
Secure Connection Failed... Error code: SSL_ERROR_HANDSHAKE_FAILURE_ALERT

Solution:
Ensure you have the latest version of EPO's card reader cryptovision software.
For example install the scinterface-8.0.12.708-ubuntu20-x86_64.deb obtainable from
https://www.epo.org/applying/online-ser ... ation.html
You will need to request a password from EPO to download the Ubuntu package.
Download, uncompress, do:
sudo dpkg -i scInterface-8.0.12.708-ubuntu20-x86_64.deb

Now the magic work-around posted by Luca Ferroni on 2022-08-22 at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1967632

As root:
# mkdir /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/p11-kit.d/
# echo "/run/user/[0-9]*/** mr," > /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/p11-kit.d/snap

Then in /var/lib/snapd/apparmor/profiles/snap.firefox.firefox
after #include <abstractions/openssl>
add "#include <abstractions/p11-kit>"

Then execute command:
# apparmor_parser -v -C -r /var/lib/snapd/apparmor/profiles/snap.firefox.firefox

Then, if this is your first installation ever, open Firefox and add the card:
Menu, Settings, Privacy & Security, scroll all the way down to the Certificates section
Click [Security Devices...]
[Load]
and add
Module Name: Crypto PKCS#11 Module
Module filename: Use the [Browse...] button, DO NOT TYPE, and browse to:
/usr/local/lib/libcvP11.so
This will then add the Gemalto PC Twin Reader underneath Crypto PKCS#11 Module

Then go to filing.epo.org and it should ask for your Smartcard's password.
Breathe a sigh of relief.

Update to make Cryptovision work at least in Ubuntu, possibly useful for other Linux distributions.

For Ubuntu users: uninstall the "snap" version of Firefox that gets installed by default:
sudo snap remove firefox
Install instead the deb package for Firefox using these instructions:
https://www.addictivetips.com/ubuntu-li ... 22-04-lts/

Ensure you have the latest version of EPO's card reader cryptovision software.
For example install the scinterface-8.0.12.708-ubuntu20-x86_64.deb obtainable from
https://www.epo.org/applying/online-ser ... ation.html
You will need to request a password from EPO to download the Ubuntu package.
Download, uncompress, do:
sudo dpkg -i scInterface-8.0.12.708-Ubuntu20-x86_64.deb
Note: It's possible the Ubuntu20 version won't work. Maybe try out the Ubuntu16 version instead.

Then follow Josué's instructions of 2022-10-27:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... omments/50
sudo apt install libacsccid1 pcscd
sudo service pcscd start
sudo systemctl enable pcscd

Then, if this is your first installation ever, open Firefox and add the smartcard:
Menu, Settings, Privacy & Security, scroll all the way down to the Certificates section
Click [Security Devices...]
[Load]
and add
Module Name: Crypto PKCS#11 Module
Module filename: Use the [Browse...] button, DO NOT TYPE, and browse to:
/usr/local/lib/libcvP11.so
This will then add the Gemalto PC Twin Reader underneath Crypto PKCS#11 Module

Restart Firefox.
Then go to filing.epo.org and it should ask for your Smartcard's password.
Breathe yet another sigh of relief.

Is there a new cryptovision software on the roadmap for MacOS 13 (Ventura) ?
We have a lot of problems with this Operating System and the smart cards.

Thanks

When I try to download the cryptovision program, it asks me for a username and password. Where can I get it? I already have my card but I can't use it if I don't download the program.
