just wondering that small changes like rule 161/162 and the sequence listing require this.

Dear Mr. Kral,

The changes in rule 161/162 and sequence listings on their own don't require a full update. However other improvements made, released at the same time do.

The full installation is not installed via Liveupdate directly to avoid any mistakes. Users can install when it is convenient for them, filing is still possible with the non-updated client.

The V5SP3, as did the previous servicepacks, contains all the up to date procedures for all offices. It will also be the basis for any subsequent update or procedure to be added.

Dear Mr. Van Haken,

thank you for the prompt answer.

Sorry, that wasn't so obvious. So server installations need no patch, the "SP3" part of the full package released today is just the changed client, correct?
And installed clients with lowered rights for software installations (no auto update) need to be "patched" with the full install client V500sp3?

Thank you and kind regards

Dear Mr. Kral,

Actually both the server and the client components will be updated. Due to the nature of the changes we preferred not to apply this as a LiveUpdate (which would only update the server components and leave the user without the executable for the client component).

If one has a stand alone then just apply the V5Sp3 on top of the existing V5 installation (select MODIFY).

If you have a distributed or networked version then first update the server component then the clients (the desktops). The clients of the previous V5 versions can connect to the updated V5SP3 server component. Hence you can update the clients later without losing the ability to file.

Information on how to install can also be found in the README that can be downloaded from the epo.org website:
http://www.epo.org/applying/online-serv ... ation.html

This is the direct link to the README: http://docs.epoline.org/onlinefilingdoc ... dMe_EN.pdf

Okay, installed it last weekend. The real reason for the nonpatch approach was

Firebird database was changed from version 1.5.3.4870 to 2.1.3.18185

So everyone using a "gbak" script to backup the database, change your paths accordingly.

Hi,

Do I understand from the above that it is necessary to update all the clients as well? I understood from the Readme that this was only necessary if you were using SOAP instead of CORBA. Are there other reasons for updating the client as well?

Regards

Cary

Dear Cary,

Correct, you do not have to update the Thin Clients thanks to backwards compatibility when using soap (as most users do).
The new TC does include a newer version of openssl, hence if not installed this will not be used when filing (but you won't suffer any loss of functionality).
It also solves a very specific issue, namely for those users with only 1 (one) diacritic character in the name. Those users will benefit from the update.
