Not full Patent application number
Not full Patent application number
Hello. We use OPS in order to get patents' data, however, we noticed that provided patent application number (field doc-number under application-reference) is not full. Example: EP1000000A1 has application number 99203729.1, but in outputs it is only 99203729. Are there any other fields or ways to get full patent application number?
Re: Not full Patent application number
The result you receive depends on the query you submit.
Application/publication/priority numbers can be present in three different formats: Original, DocDB and Epodoc. The European application number in DocDB format is an 8 digit number consisting of a two digit application year and 6 digit sequence number. In Epodoc format it is 11 digit consisting of a 4 digit application year and 7 digit sequence number. In Original it is the 8 digit DocDB number followed by a dot and a checkdigit.
Not all formats are always present in the results.
In case you submit a family query in the inpadoc section, the results contain application numbers in DocDB format only. Should you submit the same family request in the espacenet section, the results contain application numbers in all three formats (but only the narrow espacenet family, not the extended inpadoc family).
So, depending on the desired information, you will need to choose which section of the OPS to query. It cna bepossible that you will have to send a query to one section to generate a recordset of relevant documents followed by one or more queries in another section to fetch the needed bibliographic and or legal status details.

Re: Not full Patent application number
Hi,
As oppose to EP Register website, our OPS Register does not offer check digits, that is correct. If you like you can calculate them on your own. If you look at already replied forum postings you will find one with the formula for check-digit calculation for EP applications that you can implement on your end.
