Nov. 2018 – DE: Change of application kind code ‘A’ to ‘T’

Post by EPO / Patent Data Services » Thu Nov 29, 2018 10:51 am

This change concerns cases whereby the same application was in the master bibliographic database (DOCDB) twice: once with application kind code ‘A, once with application kind code ‘T’.

Approximately 160.000 applications that have been filed in the last 20 years were affected.

Kind code ‘A’ was converted to kind code ‘T’ to merge publications in DOCDB and events in Legal Status into one single application with kind-code ‘T’.

Background information:

The application re-key has been staged to resolve recurring issues in INPADOC Legal Status. Due to the ambiguity in DOCDB a number of events have ended up being split over two separate applications – other events were not able to be matched to one single application.

Examples:

DOCDB bibliographic database

Before the application re-key
application DE 10080529 A is in the database with one publication DE 10080529 B4
application DE 10080529 T is in the database with one publication DE 10080529 T1

After the application re-key
publication DE 10080529 B4 has joined publication DE 10080529 T1 in application DE 10080529 T

INPADOC legal events database

Before the application re-key
application DE 1008052984 A is in the database with one event
application DE 1008052984 T is in the database with two events
event with code R020 and date 20110505 is in the database – not connected to any application

After the application re-key
event of application DE 1008052984 A has joined the events in application DE 1008052984 T
event previously not linked to any application could now be connected to application DE 1008052984 T
