OLF V5 server stops
OLF V5 server stops
I have run version 4 with no trouble at all for over a year. I recently installed version 5 of OLF on the same system and for some reason, the OLF services stop running after a while.
Using the server manager, it is no problem to start the services again, but it is annoying to do so every one or two days.
Does anyone have a solution for this ?
Regards

This was the case for V3 too. In both versions at 3 AM a shutdown is initiated by epoline itself and the automatic restart does not work in all cases. In V4 we did not experience the problem.
You can try to install a scheduled task that does a restart minutes later than 3AM.
The command to execute is
net start EPO_OLF_FMMNGR_Service
Good Luck

Re: OLF V5 server stops
We (in the OLF developent team) are trying to find what the issue is with services not starting properly after shutting down at night. Which particular services are not started in the morning? All OLF services or just some particular ones? What is the OS used? Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2? Did the hint with the scheduled batch file help anyone? Another way to make starting of services more robust is to go to Service properties -> Recovery -> and set "Restart Service" instead of "Take No Action" in the First, second, ect failure combo-boxes.
Re: OLF V5 server stops
Apart from the problem described in my other post "V5 - Connection to server lost" I am facing the same trouble with the services being stopped every night and not coming up again automatically. I am running a Windows 2008 Standard Server. All services are stopped every morning but the trick with starting the service via the task manager did it.
I now hope to get some support for my other problem.
Best regards
Werner

Hi,
I have seen the same issue. In most cases all services have stopped and not restarted but I have seen one instance where only the file manager had not started.
Hope this helps

Re: OLF V5 server stops
Hi all,
Please try the following fix (as also mentioned in one the posts above).
1. Create a batch file containing: net start "EPO OLF FM Server (Firebird)"
2. Save the batch file on the server machine and use Windows Scheduled Tasks there to schedule running of this batch every day between 4:00 am and 7:00 am (or whenever is the earliest that the OLF system has to be used)
This approach already helped some users who've experienced this probelm.

Re: OLF V5 server stops
We have also now started experencing this problem, a week after installing OLF5
This morning all the services where stopped.
We have Windows 2003 R2 SP2
At 03:00 am I see all the EPO services being stopped by the service manager.
However the last entrues in the list of these messages is as follows:
03:00:02: The EPO OLF FM Server (FireBird) service entered the stopped state.
03:00:03: "Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the EPO OLF FM Server (FireBird) service to connect."
This message is a little confusing to me. The service was just stopped, but the very next step appears to be a timeout waiting for the same service! I cant see anywhere where an explicit START control is sent first.
Are there any other logs I can check for more information?
I shall be creating a scheduled task also, to restart the service, but that is of course, far from ideal.

Re: OLF V5 server stops
Dear Jeminus,
The services are stopped and restarted (if all goes well) on a dailly basis at 3:00 AM, hence the second message indication a time out when trying to restart them.
For some reason the V5 is more likely not to be able to restart the services. We attempt to make it more robust and include it in the pending update for 1/4/2010 changes, expected for download week 12 or later (but asap of course).

Re: OLF V5 server stops
Just out of curiosity, what happens at 3am daily that requires the services to be restarted? This has been intended functionality throughout v3, 4 and 5 if I am not mistaken.

Re: OLF V5 server stops
Dear Oli,
the daily restart is required for housekeeping purposes of the services. It is not thightly linked to 3 AM but should be done in a time slot in which no users are active.
