Questions regarding error message and citation query

Hi
We are currently working on projects, where we are looking for the forward citations.
We got PATSTAT CDs(Autumn version), sample queries, and references.
But, we are not used to the PATSTAT, so we have a problem of using the sample queries on the reference

The problems are that

First:
What does it means of an error message of [SELECT - 0 row(s), 0 secs] [Error Code: 0, SQL State: 0] The statement did not return a result set.
When I execute a simple query that (SELECT appln_id FROM tls201_appln WHERE APPLN_ID =14754), I get an message.

Second : In ‘The sample Queries and tips PATSTA online’ the note says as below
“This query makes use of the pre-computed attribute nb_citations, which is only available in PATSTAT online. With PATSTAT raw data, you would have to combine data from the tables which are tls201_appln, tls211_pat_publn and tls212_citation”, so we combine three tables in varying ways, but we can’t got the same result of nb_citations which is displayed in the PATSTA online.
Please give me a query which is used for making the pre-computed attribute nb_citations.

It would really help me out a lot if anyone is able to help me with some of my problems. Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Your first response is related to PATSTAT Online, the second to PATSTAT Raw Data. So I assume you are using both, right?

1) The error message you noted refers to an internal error of the application. It seems to have occurred first yesterday afternoon, and progressively got worse. Our developers are analysing this.

2) You are using the 2014 Autumn edition. The current 2015 Spring Edition was delivered as Raw Data last week and will be available in PATSTAT Online - tests permitting - in the next couple of days. In this current edition the attribute NB_CITATIONS of table TLS201_APPLN has been renamed to NB_CITING_DOCDB_FAM. Please have a look in the Data Catalog for 2015 Spring (downloadable from http://www.epo.org/searching/subscripti ... nline.html) at sections 6.108 and 7.4. There you will find a description of the attribute and the script how to compute this NB_CITING_DOCDB_FAM in PATSTAT Raw Data.

I hope this helps.
