Search for Patent By company - HELP

Post by Amaschmitt » Tue Apr 27, 2021 9:33 am

Dear all,

I am a last year master student, currently doing my master thesis and i need you help...

I am trying to get a database of all the published patent by companies from 2000 and 2020.

Being very new to this forum and website, i have litterally no clue how to do this... Could anybody tell me if this is even possible ? and if so, how to do it ?

I thank you in advance for your answer and your help,

A student in need

Hello Amarina,
The PATSTAT data base contains a bit over 61 million patent applications that have been applied for between 2000 and 2021. All those patent applications have been published and some have multiple publication instances. Sometimes patent applications also have multiple patent applicants, so if the data you need has to be "applicant based", then the number of "records" will even increase more.
That much data can not be "downloaded" via PATSTAT Online; the limitation is 100.000 patent applications.
So you will need to review the data needs for your research, or alternative buy PATSTAT Global and install it on a local server at your location.
Maybe you can provide a bit more details on the nature of your research, so that we can see how the data can be narrowed down to what you really need. In this forum you will find many working SQL queries which you can try out on PATSTAT Online. The PATSTAT webpage also lists some self-leaning materials for you to help you to get acquinted to SQL and PATSTAT.
