Searching based on Japanese classificiation systems
Searching based on Japanese classificiation systems
JPO uses a classificiation similar to CPC, which is called FI (file index) and consists of subdivisions of IPC. Unfortunately it's not possible to search documents by their FI on Espacenet. Is this going to be a thing in the future?

Re: Searching based on Japanese classificiation systems
Dear user,
Thank you for your question. We understand that it could be interesting to search for JP FI classification symbols in Espacenet. The Espacenet database indeed includes ~20% of JP data.
This feature is not foreseen in a near future, but I have added your suggestion to our list of desirable improvements.
I would like to draw your attention that the EPO has developed a tool for experts, namely Global Patent Index (GPI) (https://www.epo.org/searching-for-paten ... t/gpi.html), which enables the search of JP FI and F-terms in addition to the internationally assigned IPC and CPC codes. GPI is a subscription-based product. If wished, you can have a look and try this tool for free for a period of one month (https://data.epo.org/access-control/gpi ... .jsp?lg=en).
Kind regards,
Andrée
