Server thinks image manager php files are binary?

Hi
Something has changed on our server. The editor opens fine, as does does the initial 'insert/edit image' plugin (inline) popup. However when I click on the Image Manager 'browse' icon, it seems to not want to run the PHP file properly. In IE it displays the PHP source code. Firefox opens a dialogue saying 'You have chosen to open index.php which is a: Binary File'.
There have been no code changes, so it must be something someone has done to the server? Any ideas where to look for the solution to this problem?
