Simplifying legal status: valid&in force, pending, neither

Post by Fiete » Wed Jun 13, 2012 3:11 pm

Hi all,

I would like to assign a simple legal status to all patents worldwide: valid and in force, pending, or neither (e.g. rejected, lapsed, expired...).
Inpadoc legal status codes seem to offer the solution; it turns out there are quite a few PRS codes out there, however.
My approach would now be to:

- map all PRS codes by country to the simple legal status plus those which are not relevant and can be ignored in this context (like reassignments). There are 4800 codes, so this is rather laborous. Does it still seem reasonable?
- Next I would check for the latest relevant status for each patent with appln_kind = A, and assign the simple legal status to it.

Any suggestions on how to improve this?

Thanks a lot!
Fiete
