What is the point in getting a patent in only your country?

If you were going to release a product shouldn't you really be getting patents for as many countries as possible, particularly countries like china that are more likely to steal your IP? I know it would stupidly expensive to file that many patents but wouldn't that be the only way to protect your product in this global market?

Patenting in every country isn't feasible for most businesses, but with a well-thought-out strategy, you can still protect your IP in key markets and manage costs effectively.
