Greetings Team,
I have a quick question, how Espacenet determines and differentiates a continuation and a continuation-in-part publications in new Espacenet.
For Example: 1 non-prov US application (parent) has 1 CON & 1 CIP child applications. How Espacenet will determine the CON and CIP. As in this case, for both the CON & CIP publications the INID code will be 63 and has a common priority.
Also, let me know how a CIP application is identified to be considered as a first filing.

Re: Simple Family - US Continuation & CIP Publications
Hi,
May I suggest you read a document in PDF that we offer on our family pages: https://www.epo.org/searching-for-paten ... ocdb.html
As you will see in the document, family definition is not tool dependent, we offer DOCDB families as well as INPADOC extended families in all out tools, so definition in Espacenet is the same as for other tools.
If you still have questions please contact us directly at patentdata@epo.org
